Tomato Basil Sauce

Ingredients
  

  • ¼ c. olive oil
  • 1 medium onion chopped finely
  • 4 garlic cloves chopped finely
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 28- ounce can whole peeled San Marzano tomatoes crushed up in processor or by hand
  • 1 bay leaf
  • kosher salt to taste
  • 3 large sprigs basil

Pasta

  • 2 T. unsalted butter
  • ¼ c. grated parmesan

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a large skillet on medium-low.
  • Cook onion, 10 12 mins stirring occasionally.
  • Add red pepper for one minute.
  • Increase heat to medium and add tomatoes.
  • Season with salt. Add bayleaf.
  • Cook 20-25 mins. stirring occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and add basil. (Remove bay leaf)
  • Coat pasta with butter and parmesan, then add to sauce.
