Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.
Grease 10 inch cast iron skillet lightly with crisco.
In a mixer, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, and salt.
Add the butter until mixture is crumbly with some butter chunks.
Add the buttermilk and egg.
Add the cheese and combine.
Roll on a floured counter into 12x16 rectangle.
Fold into thirds like a letter and reroll to 1 inch thick.
Ue a 2 1/2 inch round cutter to press down and cut biscuits. (Don't twist)
I fit 12 into the cast iron skillet and saved 6 in the freezer for another day.
Brush each biscuit with buttermilk.
Bake approx. 20 mins.
Remove and brush with the garlic butter.
