These are the cookies that make up my childhood memories! When I went on a 6th grade trip to Frost Valley these came with me. Half with pink frosting, half with green. As I got older, mom and I made these using a heart cookie cutter. When I got married she let me take that particular cutter with me so my cookies could be exactly like hers. We also loaded them with non-pereil sprinkles. Well, now I bake these for my kiddies. This time I used regular sprinkles so you see these are very versatile. Use what you have! I think the secret to these cookies is that they are baked at 400 degrees. That is pretty unusual for a sugar cookie but it adds a crispness and flavor that can’t be beat! Be sure not to skimp on the sprinkles either! We were heading to the beach when I made these as you could probably guess from my choice of cutters! Have fun!

Mom's Famous Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup salted butter
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 ½ cups flour I like to use Pillsbury for these
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- ½ tsp. baking powder
- pinch of kosher salt
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Line cookie sheets with parchment.
- Beat butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla.
- Add flour, powder and salt to form dough.
- I like to roll this dough out right on the cookie sheet with another piece of parchment on top of it and only a drop of flour sprinkled on top of the dough.
- Use cookie cutters.
- Add sprinkles.
- Bake 8-10 mins depending on the size of your cookies until lightly golden.
- Let cool.
