Whatchamacallit
Remember the peanut butter crisp candy bars with chewy caramel centers called Whatchamacallit candy bars? This is certainly not a new candy bar. Fun fact… The Hershey Company introduced WHATCHAMACALLIT Bars in the year 1978. What a funny name! As if you couldn’t remember the name at all! Well, now you can make them at home! That’s a lot easier than running to the store and a lot more delicious, too! This king size caramel candy bar is not only fun to make but also presents as the perfect gift. You can wrap these up in cello and give them to your friends and loved ones! They will definitely be pleased with you and become instant fans! Trust me, you have to try this candy bar…it’s outrageous!!!
What is inside a Whatchamacallit?
The crisp part of this recipe comes from using Rice Krispies cereal for that special taste. You then make a simple caramel for the middle of this delicious treat. There are only 6 ingredients in these bars including bittersweet chocolate. You may want to try milk chocolate instead. I used peanut butter chips for extra peanut flavor ( a vey wise choice) but you could also use butterscotch chips if you prefer them! To make your bars look extra fancy, you can pipe on a thin layer of extra chocolate. I like to use disposable piping bags for this purpose. They are quick and easy with no mess to clean up! Pickup for them is easy on Amazon. These are fabulous for a Halloween treat or a winner any other day of the year! These are just perfect for snacking with the kids!
What is the best rich chocolate to use?
I love using Ghirardelli and I recommend the bars instead of the chips. You can chop them up and they will melt much better than chips. They will then give you a beautiful thin layer of chocolate to dress your bars up in! For even greater convenience I like to order these bars in bulk on Amazon. Get them delivered with your groceries and save yourself a trip to the store. The delivery time is usually only 2 days so plan ahead for when you want to make these bars. These are most definitely a satisfying snack that your family will love! Just ignore the calories and feel good that you are making a treat with your own ingredients!
