When I saw these apple pie tacos on my friend Holly’s blog, I knew I had to make them. You can find her blog here-Spend with Pennies. I especially loved the idea of a warm, crispy, cinnamon shell filled with apple pie filling and cold whipped cream! A little bit of hot and cold is always fun for your taste buds! I even made mine gluten free!

Apple Pie Tacos
Ingredients
- Small round flour tortillas I used Udi's gluten free
- Canola Oil for frying
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 large can apple pie filling (If apples are large, can cut some in half)
- Reddi-wip Cool Whip or whipped cream you love
Instructions
- Combine sugar & cinnamon in a bowl and set aside.
- Heat 1 1/2" of oil in a deep pot on the stove over medium.
- Once oil is hot, lay a tortilla in carefully.
- Using tongs, flip it over and fold it in half with the tongs until browned.
- Flip again to brown the other side.
- Be careful as the oil may splatter!!!! Carefully remove from the oil, getting rid of any excess and lay it into the cinnamon & sugar mixture.
- Fill each taco with the apple filling and top with whipped cream!

In our culture (hispanic) we make tortillas. However during the Christmas holiday we also make buenelos. They look like tortillas, the recipe is slightly different. If you google for this recipe you will see tortillas and buenelos are different. Just wanted to let you all know this might be better.

I just made these today…they turned out great! The only problem I had was that the tortilla shells bubbled and that made it hard to keep them bent in the frying pan, but they were yummy!!! To play it up, you could make your own apple pie filling in a healthier way (which I didn’t do LOL) by cutting up some apples, putting some agave nectar or maple syrup in a pan, and stirring the apples around, letting them sort of simmer into a gooey yummy mess 😀 Or you could use another filler like blueberry or whatever if you don’t like apple!

My exact same thoughts..no canned apples, fried some up with cinnamon butter and honey to sweeten. Yummy!

I just saw Stand and Stuff Taco Shells, wonder how they would be deep fried and filled ?? May try, if I do I will post about them.

Aren’t the stand and stuff corn tortillas? If they are flour I think that would work! Maybe too much filling LOL!
