This is amazing with fresh whipped cream and strawberries. Don’t forget to drizzle on the maple syrup, too!! This recipe is from my Aunt Arlene….which makes it extra special! This is also fabulous made with Brioche Bread from Trader Joe’s! (below) Above I used a challah bread (one).
AUNT ARLENE'S FAMOUS OVERNIGHT FRENCH TOAST
Ingredients
- 1 CHALLAH CUT INTO SMALL SLICES
- MAKE CUSTARD:
- 8 EGGS
- 1 ½ C. MILK
- 1 ½ C. HEAVY CREAM
- 4 T. SUGAR
- 1 T. VANILLA
- DASH CINNAMON
Instructions
- GREASE A 12X16 COOKIE SHEET AND LAY BREAD FLAT IN ONE LAYER.
- MIX ALL INGREDIENTS FOR CUSTARD.
- POUR OVER BREAD, COVER AND REFRIGERATE OVERNIGHT.
- IN THE MORNING, TURN OVER THE SLICES.
- PREHEAT OVEN TO 350, DOT THE TOP OF BREAD SLICES WITH 2T. SOFT BUTTER AND BAKE UNCOVERED 45-60 MINUTES.
- SERVE WITH BERRIES, WHIPPED CREAM AND MAPLE SYRUP!

If you use Trader Joe’s Brioche Loaf Bread, would you use the same amount of eggs and milk for the custard?
